reported speech

 We use reported speech when we want to repeat what someone had previously said.  

Lets look at the differences between direct speech and reported speech:  

 

Direct: Im tired. Reported: tommy says that he was tired  

In reported speech we need to use the past tense and form of the verb.   

As you can see, in the above sentence and changes to was when we use reported speech
